KDI Review of the North Korean Economy for March includes four trend analysis articles.

“North Korea’s Science and Technology Policy: Accomplishments, Limits, and Prospects” assesses how much S&T policy could contribute to the regime’s economic development, and “North Korea’s ‘Frontal Breakthrough’ Strategy and S&T” analyzes news reports from Rodong Sinmun and Minju Choson to get some insight into the background and context of its decision regarding the role and agenda of S&T in ‘Frontal Breakthrough.’

In “Trends and Assessment of North Korea’s Construction and Industrial Technology in the Kim Jong Un Era,” the contributor examines the regime's policy to foster construction industry and its S&T, analyzing the recent institutional approaches to upgrade the quality of construction works and diagnosing efforts to foster construction S&T in certain areas such as traffic infrastructure, construction, disaster, environment, and construction equipment and materials.

Lastly, “North Korea's Policy on Defense Science and Prospect: Reform through Defense S&T” analyzes the regime’s nuclear technology level in comparison with other nuclear-armed countries and examines what type of defence technology and weapons system the regime has particularly focused on to strengthen its conventional military power. Then, it concludes with the prospect for future development of defense technology and weapons system, along with the analysis of the current situation of the regime’s defense reform through these policy trends and prospects.
