KDI, Sixth Year in the Global Top 5 Best Asian Think Tanks

□ Korea Development Institute (KDI) ranked 5th among non-US think tanks and 20th in a panel of over 8,100 institutes in the 2018 Global Go To Think Tank Index Report, released on 30th January by the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program (TTCSP) at the University of Pennsylvania.

○The Index has rated KDI as the top think tank in Asia (China, India, Japan and Korea) for six consecutive years since 2013.

○KDI has placed first place in international development for three straight years and its global status was reaffirmed in 13 key categories including best-managed (4th), outstanding policy-oriented research programs (6th), domestic economic policy (10th), international economics (11th), social policy (14th) and best use of media (23th).

□ The TTCSP, led by James G. McGann, professor at the University of Pennsylvania, has released an annual comprehensive ranking of global think tanks since 2006 based on compiled data from the recommendations and online surveys of scholars, policy makers, journalists and field experts from around the world, and expert panel evaluation results.


○A total of 3,750 experts from various fields evaluated approximately 8,100 think tanks for the 2018 Index.

○Evaluations included: researcher capabilities; financial stability; institution leadership; quality and dissemination of research outcomes; seminars; application of research outcomes in policy and; citation by media and academic journals, etc.
