KDI Review of the North Korean Economy for July published two articles, “Stimulating Inter-Korean Economic Cooperation Using the South Korean Won and Measures to Boost Development in North Korea” and “Public Health Conditions in North Korea, How Will They Change?”

On July 19, 2019, the KDI Office of the North Korean Economics Studies held the North Korean Economic Research Forum, titled “Stimulating Inter-Korean Economic Cooperation Using the South Korean Won and Measures to Boost Development in North Korea” and explored options to use the South Korean won for economic collaboration between the two Koreas, along with discussions on underlying problems, solutions and payment system that could be introduced.

“Public Health Conditions in North Korea, How Will They Change?” presents a comprehensive analysis of health conditions of North Korean residents based on major public health indices. Based on in-depth study of the past and present of public health conditions, this article is concluded with a perspective for the future.

Providing Economic Forecast and Macroeconomic Policy Direction, the Groundwork for a Brighter Future

The Department of Macroeconomics is conducting researches on the macro economy and macroeconomic policy, particularly focusing on suggesting the analysis of macroeconomic trends and current status of the economy at home and abroad, the economic forecast, and the policy direction of the macro economy. The Department is also in charge of establishing, sustaining and maintaining various econometric models, based on which it analyses policy effects and develops a long-term economic forecast.
