“The International Conference on Public Finance for Sustainable Growth,” hosted by the National Economic Advisory Council and organized by the Korea Development Institute, will be held on December 6th (Tues.) at the Fairmont Ambassador Seoul.
Korea’s public finance is facing many complex and challenging factors. Although fiscal capacity has been greatly reduced in the process of responding to the Coronavirus pandemic, voices demanding that the role of fiscal affairs be played have been rising amidst growing concerns regarding an economic slowdown and ongoing difficulties in public livelihoods. Furthermore, fiscal risk factors like rapid demographic changes still remain. The recent situation marked by high inflation and monetary tightening calls for a more elaborate fiscal policy operation. Against this difficult and complex backdrop, this is the point in time that requires much wisdom and insight in order for public finance to effectively play its role.
This conference is a venue to discuss the roles of public finance for Korea’s sustainable growth in the presence of outstanding scholars and experts from home and abroad including Professor Laurence J. Kotlikoff from Boston University. They will discuss key topics related to fiscal policy operation, such as fiscal policy in the period of high inflation, Korea’s medium- to long-term fiscal risk factors, and measures to improve fiscal soundness. This conference will surely serve as a valuable forum to explore directions for Korea’s fiscal policy.
We hope for your avid interest and participation.
In-Ho Lee Vice Chairman | National Economic Advisory Council
Youngsun Koh Interim-President | Korea Development Institute
