PIM Conference Seoul 2019 was held by Korea Development Institute, jointly with the Ministry of Economy and Finance and World Bank, at Conrad Seoul on Dec. 16~17, with the them “Public Investment Management for Decades to Come: Lessons from the Past and Challenges for the Future.”
This year marks twenty years since preliminary feasibility study (PFS) system was adopted with an aim to enhance efficiency in public investment. Speakers looked back on how far they have come and where they are going, coping with rapidly changing economic and social conditions and needs.
Conference attendees include high-level decision makers and front-line experts from Korea and abroad who have the best insight into public investment management: Jeong Pyo Choi, President of Korea Development Institute, Yun-cheol Koo, Vice Minister at Ministry of Economy and Finance, Jim Brumby, Director of the Governance Global Practice at World Bank, Chishiro Matsumoto, advisor at International Monetary Fund, Andrew Blazey, deputy head of the Budgeting and Public Expenditures Division at OECD, Graham Glenday, professor at Duke University, Glenn P. Jenkins, professor at Queen’s University, Edgardo S. Mimica, professor at Universidad Adolfo Ibanez and many respected field experts from government agencies and leading research institutes and organizations around the world.
They delivered various and informative presentations on global trends and innovation in public investment management and discussed topics that would help improve Korea’s development.
The two-day conference was organized into two parts: “PIM: Performance and Lessons Learned” wherein Jim Brumby, senior advisor, World Bank and Chishiro Matsumoto, advisor, International Monetary Fund (IMF) delivered keynote speeches followed by renowned experts offering five insightful sessions and “Korean PFS: Past 20 Years and Future to Come” which centered on PFS in two sessions.
