  • KDI, founded on March 11th, 1971, turns 53 years old this year.

President Cho Dong-chul delivered a congratulatory speech on the occasion of the Korea Development Institute's 53rd anniversary, blending a look back at KDI’s history with a forward-thinking vision for its future.

In his address, President Cho reminisced about his formative years when KDI stood as a beacon of inspiration and scholarly excellence. "The recollection of my youth, when KDI was held in high esteem, feels as if it were just yesterday. Yet astonishingly, half a century has elapsed," he stated. He further pondered the institute's centennial, a milestone that, while distant, is steadily approaching, heralding a future where KDI continues to thrive and influence.

Since assuming the presidency of KDI, President Cho has championed a vision predicated on robust, evidence-based policy research and heightened collaboration across KDI's diverse affiliated centers including the KDI School of Public Policy and Management. His leadership emphasizes creating an environment where every member feels an intrinsic sense of pride and belonging to the institute's mission.

  • "When more people aspire to join and such traditions take root, KDI will indeed proudly host its centennial celebration."

In his reflective discourse, Cho articulated a vision for the institute that extends beyond the mere pursuit of research excellence. He advocated for a culture of collaboration and synergy among the institute's members, suggesting that mutual concessions and empathy are the bedrock of a unified and progressive organizational culture.

Echoing the words of President John F. Kennedy, President Cho implored the KDI colleagues to adopt a proactive stance. He urged them to consider what they could contribute to the institute's legacy rather than focusing solely on what the institute could offer them.

As KDI looks ahead to its next half-century, President Cho's speech serves as a poignant reminder of the institute's enduring legacy and its dedication to advancing knowledge and policy for the betterment of society.
