Participation in Korea-LAC Forum
and Meeting with Brazilian Vice President

On July 25, Cho Dong-chul, President of KDI, attended the “2024 Korea-LAC Trade & Innovation Forum” in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The event was co-hosted by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and Korea's Ministry of Economy and Finance, with support from KOTRA and the Export-Import Bank of Korea. During the session titled “Public-Private Partnerships: Expanding Opportunities for Foreign Investment in Infrastructure,” President Cho outlined the role of KDI's Public and Private Infrastructure Investment Management Center (PIMAC) and its international cooperation programs.

As the forum aimed to enhance economic cooperation between Korea and Latin American countries, the panel discussed ways for Korean investors to increase their participation in the region’s public-private partnership (PPP) markets. Latin American speakers expressed particular interest in Korea’s successful PPP projects and KDI’s international cooperation on PPPs. In response, President Cho introduced the Asia Public-Private Partnership Network (APN) Conference, which KDI co-hosts with the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in close coordination with the Ministry of Economy and Finance. The other speakers requested KDI to expand its international cooperation network to include the Latin American region.

Additionally, President Cho attended a VIP meeting hosted by Brazil’s Vice President Geraldo Alckmin. The closed-door meeting brought together senior Brazilian officials and Korean business leaders to discuss future Korea-Brazil economic cooperation. Representing the public sector, President Cho remarked, “While others may have come seeking investment opportunities, I am here to share ideas, knowledge, and development experiences.” He further explained that KDI is willing to extend its knowledge-sharing programs, currently offered in Asia, to the Latin American region, provided there is appropriate financial support from IDB.
