IDE-JETRO President Visits KDI

-
From March 20 to 21, Fukunari Kimura, President of the Institute of Developing Economies at the Japan External Trade Organization (IDE-JETRO), visited KDI to discuss ways to strengthen the stability and resilience of global supply chains through the KDI Fellow Seminar and the International Development Cooperation Forum.
On March 20, a seminar titled “The East Asian Production Networks under the US-China Confrontation and Trump 2.0” was held at KDI’s conference room, attended by 16 KDI fellows. Participants exchanged views on the restructuring of East Asian supply chain networks amid intensifying US-China tensions and the potential re-election of Donald Trump. The discussion particularly focused on key policy tools expected in the Trump 2.0 era, such as tariffs and export controls. It also emphasized the importance of close cooperation with ASEAN and the WTO to safeguard a rules-based trade system and stabilize supply chains.
On March 21, the International Development Cooperation Forum was held in KDI’s 6th-floor video conference room under the same theme. The forum drew 46 participants and featured a keynote presentation by President Kimura, followed by a panel discussion with three experts: Jongnam Han (Team Leader, Export-Import Bank of Korea), Hyukki Min (Senior Research Fellow, Korea Institute for Industrial Economics and Trade), and Junsik Park (Deputy Director, Development Cooperation Division, KOTRA).
KDI’s Center for International Development regularly hosts the International Development Cooperation Forum, inviting academics, government officials, and private-sector experts from home and abroad to identify and analyze major policy issues across various sectors. Dr. Fukunari Kimura currently serves as Professor Emeritus of Economics at Keio University and President of the IDE-JETRO.▶ Go to Dr. Fukunari Kimura's presentation materials(click)
