Career

On completion of his Doctor's degree in Economics in 1968, he became an Assiatant Professor of Economics at Wisconsin State University (Stevens Point Campus). In 1969, he taught at California State University (Fullerton Campus).

In 1970, he returned to Korea to join the Bank of Korea, where he served until 1983 in several positions, including Deputy Director of the Research Department, Deputy Director of the International Finance Department, Chief Representative of the Singapore Office, and Director of the Research Department.

From 1983 to October 1986, he has been the President of the Korea Development Institute (a government appointment). The KDI is a think-tank for advising comprehensive policies for the economic and social development of Korea.

From October 1986 to March 1988, he served as the President of the Korea Credit Guarantee Fund, which is a government financial institution to support small and medium businesses through credit guarantee facilities. From March 1988 to March 1991, he has been the President of the Industrial Bank of Korea, which is a government development bank specializing in small and medium enterprises financing.

In March 1992, he was appointed by the government as the Board Chairman of the Citizens National Bank of Korea (the Kookmin Bank), which specializes in small business and household loans. During 1994~1996, he has been the Chairman of the First Finance Research Institute, which is a research and consulting subsidiary of the Korea First Banking group.

In August 1996, he was appointed by the government as a Member of the Monetary Board of the Bank of Korea, which is the supreme policy-making body of monetary policy and bank supervising in Korea. With the amendment of the Bank of Korea Act, his tenure was finished at the end of March 1998.

Since March 1997, he has also been affiliated with the Asian Development Bank as a consultant ( a member of the Eminent Persons Group) for the manpower and policy development of the Ministry of Planning & Investment of the Vietnamese government.

Currently, he is the President of the Jaeneung University, which has about 4,000 student enrollments with 15 departments located in the port city of Inchon near Seoul.
