[News] Can news big data analysis tell the economic situation?

December 14, 2020

We are introducing the Economic Policy Uncertainty (EPU) index that can help you better understand Korea's economic uncertainty in near real-time through big data analysis.

The EPU index, created by Scott Baker (Northwestern), Nicholas Bloom (Stanford), and Steven Davis (University of Chicago), analyzes news-media textual data on a real-time basis and serves as a proxy for movements in policy-related economic uncertainty.

KDI constructed its own EPU index for Korea by reflecting the current domestic situation. Monthly updates, along with information about relevant keywords, expressions, and networks, are available online at the website for KDI Economic Information and Education Center (EIEC).
