'Dialogue' of KDI Review of the North Korean Economy for February 2021 is about ‘North Korean Market I: Growth, Structure, and Changes,’ which focuses on one of the most noticeable phenomena found in the North Korean economy in the past thirty years: development of the market. In the past, North Korea maintained a planned economy relying on a strong control, but now it seems there are only remnants of the control, as its economy is now increasingly reliant on informal economic activities, represented by the market, or on economic principle-based activities. Most of general economic agents are known to have their daily lives dependent on market activities. Many researchers outside the state have unceasingly studied its new trend of growing market activities, and February’s was conducted in line with such efforts, with an emphasis on its market growth, structure, and changes.

The theme for the North Korean Economic Research Forum was ‘US-North Korea Relations and the Future of the Korean Peninsula,’ which attempts to project how the situation between the two will unfold under the Biden administration and what approaches South Korea should take in the future.

In addition, one analysis article is featured: 'North Korea's Income-Population Puzzle: Facts and Causes.'
