Working Paper Statistical Profile of Children and Adolescents in Korea. Vol.I : Statistics June 30, 1979
June 30, 1979
- Summary
-
The need for a statistical profile covering children and
adolescents has arisen mainly because of the special importance
that is now being accorded to human resources in socioeconomic
development planning. In the next two years, preliminary
investigation and study will be made in Korea for the Fifth
Five-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan(1982-1986). If
adequate and planned attention is to be given to the
developmental requirements of raising healthy children and
adolescents, accurate measuring criteria for specific needs and
constraint must be established.
The Korea Development Institute(KDI) has taken a first step
in this direction by producing the attached statistical profile. The
profile was compiled form existing data relating directly and
indirectly to children and adolescents, and it will hopefully be of
sue to planers, policy makers, and other officials immediately
concerned with planning and providing services for children.
Government tables have been included in the profile despite
the fact that little statistical data is available. This has been
done more to set the directions of future investigation than to
display presently available information.
Government publications and the work of research
institutions and international organizations rae the principal
sources of information for the profile. The data thus gathered
has been listed under the following headings: economy,
demography, family planning, education, health, nutrition, housing
and social welfare services.
