After 2nd Korea-Japan joint workshop, there was a consensus among the training program coordinators for the need of this program again in 2002. Therefore, KDI is deliberating on the 3rd Korea-Japan joint workshop with Japanese representatives.

Major objectives of the 3rd workshop, such as 1st and 2nd workshop, are as follows: (a) to enhance the understanding of basic principles in market economy: macro/micro-economic management, international free trade, the economic role of the public and private sector in development, small- and medium-scale enterprises policy, industrial standards and standardization, etc; (b) to introduce the experiences of Korean and Japanese economic development so that the participants may learn from both countries and may bolster their ability to plan and evaluate national development policies. (c) to provide a forum for an inter-agency/cross-cultural exchange of ideas concerning economic development and reform.
