Korea needs to seek fiscal sustainability on a long-term clock. Amid concerns that the ultra-low fertility rate and rapid aging will increase the financial burden on future generations, there is a strong need to discuss fiscal management principles and improve the efficiency of fiscal expenditures.
In addition, abnormal weather conditions like heat waves, typhoons, and wildfires are appearing worldwide due to global warming. Korea has also recently experienced record-breaking heat waves and torrential rains. Both Korea and major countries abroad are emphasizing the role of fiscal policy in supporting carbon neutrality and green growth to ensure a safe life for future generations.
Therefore, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, in cooperation with the KDI and the OECD, will review fiscal management directions for future generations based on domestic and international examples and share opinions on budget planning and execution.
