The theme foris ‘North Korea’s Prices and Exchange Rates:. Observation, Trends, and Analysis.’ In recent studies on the North Korean economy, (market) prices and exchange rates are viewed as one of the most important observed variables based on the belief that they can directly reflect the status and trends of the North Korean economy. In fact, many studies on the North Korean economy use the observations of these variables as important analysis data. Nevertheless, these data are the most difficult to obtain among macroeconomic variables on the North Korean economy. There are constant debates over how to construct and compile the observations and what methods should be used to analyze the results.
The North Korean Economic Research Forum discussed under the title, “Recent Political Trends in the Korean Peninsular and Prospects for Inter-Korean Relations.” The ongoing conflicts between the US and China pose many challenges and tasks to Korea. As a series on the US-China disputes that started in June, the Forum hold on November 13 invited a number of experts in the fields ranging from military and security to politics, diplomacy, and economy and shared insights about the impacts on the Korean peninsula and the prospect of inter-Korean relations.
November issue also features “Prospects of New US Administration's Policy on the Korean Peninsula” for the ‘Trends and Analysis’ section and a research paper titled “Impact of UN Economic Sanctions on North Korea-China Trade.”
