오늘날 북한경제의 가장 큰 걸림돌은 에너지 공급 부족으로 파악된다. 국제사회의 원유 공급 대북제재가 본격화되면서 북한의 에너지 상황에 대한 관심이 늘어나고 있다. 이번 <대화>는 에너지경제연구원의 김경술 박사를 초청하여, 북한 에너지 분야의 역사와 환경, 1990년대 경제위기로 인한 에너지 경제 변화, 관련 정책 및 국가 에너지 관리 현황, 나아가 남북경협과 국제사회의 대북 경제협력에 있어서 에너지 협력의 중요성을 살펴본다.

연구논문 “김정은 시대 북한의 지역 경제수준 결정요인과 제재 효과: 야간조도를 통한 분석”은 인공위성 야간조도와 다양한 공간정보를 활용한 실증분석을 수행, 지역 경제라는 틀에서 김정은 시대 북한경제에 기여한 요인은 시장과 무역임을 밝혔다. 9월에 열린 북한경제연구협의회에서는 중국이 급변하는 내부 상황에도 불구하고 보다 강경한 대미정책을 취하는 배경을 해석하고, 현재 중국의 상황과 대외정책이 한반도 및 북한문제에 대해 갖는 함의를 논의했다. 경제자료, “은행 결제방법을 통하여 보는 북한의 기업관리”는 현재 북한 기업관리에서 적용되고 있는 다양한 결제방법을 살펴봄으로써 북한기업의 실질적 운영에 대한 구체적인 이해를 돕고자 했다.

The biggest obstacle to the North Korean economy of today is the shortage of energy supply. Now that international sanctions on crude oil supply to North Korea are fully implemented, North Korea's energy situation is drawing attention. September’s 'Dialogue' invited Dr. Kim Kyung-Sul at the Korea Energy Economics Institute to look into the history and environment of North Korea's energy sector, changes in the energy economy during economic crisis in the 1990s, related policies and the current state of national energy management, and furthermore, the importance of energy cooperation in the fields of inter-Korean economic cooperation and global economic cooperation with North Korea.

The monograph, “Determinants of Local Economy Level and the Effects of Sanctions in the Kim Jong-un Era: Analysis Based on Nighttime Satellite Imagery,” conducted empirical analysis using satellite imagery and various spatial data, and found that in terms of local economy, market and trade are essential contributing factors to the North Korean economy in the Kim Jong Un era. The North Korean Economic Research Forum held in September interpreted what lies behind China's toughened policy towards the US, despite rapidly changing internal circumstances, and discussed the current situation and the implications of China's foreign policy on the Korean Peninsula and North Korea issues. “Corporate Management in North Korea through Bank Payment Methods” (Economic Materials) intends to help better understanding of the actual operation of North Korean companies by analyzing various payment methods and systems.
